C.A.R.E.

C.A.R.E. is a Park-District-run program, which offers before and after-school care for children whose parents require extended childcare. C.A.R.E. is a self-supporting program and is not supported by school district or tax funds. Enrollment is limited. This Park District program is one of many childcare options offered in the community.

Families apply for this park district program at either the Palatine or Rolling Meadows Park District. The Park Districts process registrations and payments. All registrations, drops, schedule changes, refunds, and additional fees are billed through the registering Park District.

The program is structured to be relaxed and recreational to counterbalance the educational activities during the school day. We offer quality childcare with a variety of structured and non-structured activities including: arts, crafts, sports, active games, outdoor play, and games they can play with their peers, such as card or board games. Children are also given time to work on homework.

The C.A.R.E. Coordinator at School District 15 hires, trains, and oversees the supervision of all C.A.R.E. program staff while the school district houses the before and after-school programs. Each site has a Site Director who reports to the C.A.R.E. Coordinator. The Site Director and the C.A.R.E. staff are responsible for the daily program under the direction of the C.A.R.E. Coordinator.

What If My Child Needs Assistance to Successfully Participate?

We work closely with NWSRA (Northwest Special Recreation Association) to provide a child with special needs with an aide if one is needed to fully-participate in the program or if our staff require additional training to best serve the needs of the child. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like to be considered for an aide or if there is any information that you would like to share that will help us offer the best accommodations for your child.

What Hours Does C.A.R.E. Operate?

The Before-School portion of C.A.R.E. runs from 7 A.M. until school starts and After-School C.A.R.E. runs until 6 P.M.

Where Does the C.A.R.E. Program Operate?

1st - 6th Grade and PM Kindergarten/Full-day Kindergarten: Each of the 15 participating schools uses a designated classroom as their base where parents drop off in the morning and pick up in the evening.
Morning Kindergarten Extended-Day C.A.R.E. Program: Your child can be dropped off at the school's C.A.R.E. room any time after 7 A.M., or if you do not wish to use the Before-School session of C.A.R.E. you can drop your child off directly to their kindergarten class at the beginning of the school day. After their morning kindergarten class, school staff will take children to get on a District 15 bus with other kindergartners. The children take the bus to either the Rolling Meadows Park District or the Palatine Park District, where Kindergarten C.A.R.E. staff get them off the bus and bring them to the Morning Kindergarten Extended-Day Program. After the Morning Kindergarten Extended-Day Program, (between 2:30 - 3:00 PM) the children who attend Central Road, Willow Bend and Kimball Hill will stay at the Rolling Meadows Community Center for After-School C.A.R.E. All other students are bused back to their schools for the After-School session of C.A.R.E., where C.A.R.E. staff get them off of the bus and bring them to the C.A.R.E. room at their home school.

When Can I Apply?

The Lottery Application Period is for new families interested in joining the CARE program. It takes place during the month of February. Applications can be dropped in the collection box at the Park District Community Center at any time during this period since first-come is NOT first-served due to the lottery process. Applicants will be notified by the Recreation Supervisor whether their child has a spot in the program or if they are put on a wait-list.
Open enrollment begins on the first Monday in March and will follow a first-come first-served basis. Applications will be accepted at the start of regular business hours during open enrollment. This period will be ongoing throughout the school year. If maximum capacity has already been reached at your child's school, the Park District will contact you if your child will be placed on a wait-list. If openings become available at your school, you will be contacted once we are able to place your child into the program. No deposit is required to be on the wait-list. Enrollment may be closed in August based on the school district.
