Description

Cardinal Drive Park features a newly installed inclusive playground atop a soft, resilient surface of lush green turf. The playground boasts a variety of inclusive equipment, including a music area, climbing apparatus, a modern teeter-totter style quad, slides, ramps and several attractions designed to inspire creativity, discovery and open-ended play. 

Other features include two dedicated pickleball courts where the public can enjoy this increasingly popular sport. 

History

Work to create a new inclusive playground and dedicated pickleball courts was completed in autumn 2022, with a Grand Opening Celebration taking place September 27, 2022. Originally constructed in 1961, amenities at Cardinal Drive Park, located at 2708 Cardinal Drive, include:

  • A new state-of-the-art playground boasting a variety of inclusive equipment, including a music area, climbing apparatus, a modern teeter-totter style quad, slides, ramps and several attractions designed to inspire creativity, discovery and open-ended play
  • Two pickleball courts fully dedicated to the popular sport
  • Picnic area and pavilion
  • Rain garden and nature area

The new playground and renovations were made possible by a$312,600 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
